Nashville Writing!

This week's meeting is going to be at 6 o'clock at Coco, instead of 7, and the tentative 'assignment' is to write a poem. It's going to be a teeny little group because el_kamino is getting married (congratulations!), so new faces please feel free to come out. :)

Hey, I'm Beth.  I'm an editor at McGraw-Hill and was an English teacher before that.  I've lived in Nashville for four years, but I'm from Indiana by way of New Orleans (only for a year).  I haven't gone to any of the meetings and really have slacked off on LiveJournal writing as well.  I graduated from Indiana Univ. with a Secondary Education, English degree with a concentration in writing.  My only "community" writing was in classes, but I felt I gained a great amount of feedback from the process.  I don't write as much as I want to, but when I do write it's either bad poetry (LOL) or the beginnings of what I think would be a good short story but then I re-read what I've wrote and save it to a file I'll never open again.  *sigh*

I'm Heather, 30, originally from New York and Massachusetts (yes, I was a small child with a Long Island accent). I moved to Nashville about a year ago, and I work from home (freelance advertising writing for The Man), so it's nice to get out and meet some cool people! I got my MFA in creative writing a few years ago, and I've missed having a workshop group. Right now, I'm neck deep (about 180 pages) into a novel, which I'm sure I'll be looking to drop on some poor, innocent critiquers at some point in the future... (insert diabolical laughter here).

Oh! And since we were discussing National Novel Writing Month, here's the link for anyone who hasn't seen it yet so you can start gearing up for November. Hooray! :)

I'm Frankie, 24, native nashvillian as well....

Work for the state government as a caseworker (hate my job)... I want to write things but am horrible at motivating myself to do so. I am hoping that this will help to spur me on knowing that I have some people to answer to. :)

I'm Heather. 28 years old. Married to wimpyisdead for 6 years. No Children. Unemployed. I'm in Murfreesboro and have been for over 14 years now. I don't write but I joined this community because I was intrigued (mostly by the name of it :b). Maybe I can be the writers' group mascot (or waterboy!). :D

I'll go next!

My name's Sarah, native Nashvillian, 22. I majored in Latin and Greek and minored in Russian at Vanderbilt, just graduated in May. Currently employed as a (lazy) secretary in the state attorney general's office. Live with my boyfriend and our two kitties. I've always loved writing and am looking for something to motivate me to do so in a creative fashion instead of just rambling to my livejournal all the time. I want to get better at telling stories. Aaaand that's about it. :)

i'm andi. 26. not a native nashvillian, transplanted from memphis just over 3 years ago. i work in an office, and on the side i write(though not nearly as much as i should, but i'll get to that in a minute), and i do various artsy things that usually involve gluing stuff to other stuff, and i sometimes paint(mostly acrylics).(i also like oil or chalk pastels and colored pencils as medium). im a compulsive reader, and i'll read almost anything that isnt a trashy romance novel.

i joined the group in hopes to spur me to write more, because i really dont as often as i should. i draft innumerable things in my head, they just never make it to paper(or pixel). i also like the idea of constructive criticism from different viewpoints, and hope to strengthen some of my weaknesses.

any questions?

Alright! It's Tuesday and I finally wrote a little something. It's nothing special, but hey, this is our first week of actually writing, so it doesn't have to be perfect, right? :)

So... who thinks they'll be coming on Thursday?

I'm not sure how best to do this... if you want to respond here and say if you're coming or not, then people can get your email address from the previous friends-only entry and send out whatever they have to be read. I think that's a semi-reasonable plan, feel free to make suggestions if I'm missing something obvious.

In case I forgot, my email is paynese@gmail.com if you want to send things around to me and everyone else who'll be there. uuuh... I guess read comments to see who's coming?

Weekly emailing. [Aug. 28th, 2006|11:56 am]

Just as a heads-up, if I recall correctly, we decided that it would be best to email whatever we'd written for the week on the Tuesday before we meet on Thursday.

That way people have Wednesday to read, digest, and react!

Sooo... if you're still working on your masterpiece, like myself, and can't get it ready by Tuesday, don't fret. Emailing on Wednesday is okay. But please do go ahead and send whatever you have with enough time in advance for us to look it over.

Thanks! I'm looking forward to reading. :)

Oh, and I believe we settled upon 7 o'clock at Cafe Coco as the time and place.
